Gifts terms

This is a short summary while the full terms are written.

What a gift is

A gift is a way to thank a creator for a clip or a live they made. It is a payment for content you enjoyed. It is not a donation to a cause. A gift never changes votes, results or rankings.

Everyone sees the same gift ("@maya sent a Crown"), however it was paid for. If you turn off Show my wins in Settings, others see you as "Someone".

Gems

Gems are what you send gifts with. In the iPhone app you buy Gems only through Apple's In-App Purchase, in packs of 500, 1,000, 2,500 or 5,000 Gems, at the price the App Store shows you. No pack comes with bonus Gems.

Each gift has a fixed price in Gems, from a Spark (10 Gems) to a Rocket (5,000 Gems). 1 Gem counts as 1 US cent of gift value: that is how a creator's earnings are worked out. To you, Gems are a licence to send gifts in the app, not money. They have no cash value, can't be cashed out, can't be won, put on a verse, sold, sent to another person or turned into points, and are never paid back as points or money.

Gems never expire while your account is open.

Who can buy and send

You need to be 18 or older (a birthday that makes you 18 or older) to buy Gems and to send a gift. You accept these terms before your first Gem purchase, and again when they change.

Who can receive

A creator can receive a gift when they are 18 or older and their account is in good standing. You can't send a gift to yourself, to someone you blocked or who blocked you, or to a YouVS demo account. We may refuse a gift between accounts that look linked (for example, used on the same phone), and we don't always say why.

Limits

You can buy up to 10,000 Gems a day and 25,000 Gems a week (days and weeks in UTC, weeks start Monday), and hold up to 10,000 Gems at a time. You can send gifts worth up to 10,000 Gems a day to one creator, and up to 30 gifts a minute.

If you are on a break from buying, or have set a limit on what you put in, it applies to Gems too.

What creators earn

When you receive a gift, you earn 50 % of its value (a 500-Gem gift earns you $2.50). YouVS keeps the rest, which also pays Apple's fee. Earnings are held for 14 days, then they show as available.

Cashing out is not available yet. Your earnings stay on your account and are shown in the app. Before any payout we will ask you to set up payouts and give tax details, and payouts may only be possible in some countries. Gift earnings are income, and you are responsible for any tax on them.

If a purchase behind a gift is refunded, the gift is taken back and so is what you earned from it. If you already used those earnings, later earnings repay it first.

Refunds

Gems bought in the iPhone app are bought from Apple, and only Apple can refund them: ask at reportaproblem.apple.com. If Apple refunds a Gem purchase, the Gems it added are removed, and gifts paid with them are taken back. A refund after the Gems were spent can pause Gem buying on your account until support looks at it.

Except as Apple refunds or the law requires, Gem purchases and sent gifts are final.

If your account ends

If you delete your account, or we close it for breaking the Terms, unspent Gems and gift earnings that were not paid out are lost. The app tells you how many before you delete. We can remove Gems or earnings that came from cheating, fraud or a reversed payment.

Changes and contact

We may change the gift shelf, prices in Gems, limits and the creator share. A change never alters a gift already sent. Questions: Help & support in Settings, or support@youvs.app.
